Workshop: How to Break Silence of Self and Location

  • Nampa Public Library 215 12th Avenue Road Nampa, ID, 83651 United States (map)

Welcome to the First of Four FREE writing workshops!

Death Rattle Workshop Series: How to Break Silence of Self and Location w/ instructor Austin Kirkham

Everything we touch has a part of ourselves smudged into it. We leave pieces with every flake of dust, grocery store trip, and message. There are remnants of our interactions that can tie directly to literature with some ease: Receipts, Facebook messages, saved Snapchats, scrapbooks, and so forth. These snippets can pin a moment down to the date or trigger lost memories. Engaging in reading and examination of these paths of our lives is a type of self-research.

Participants will engage in writing exercises and discussion, and will only share what they feel comfortable sharing. Standard workshop procedure will apply, and the atmosphere will be low-stress. Please bring a pen and a writing utensil – Journals are always a great way to keep a record of your thoughts and exercises and lay the foundation for larger drafts if you have not already explored this.

Workshop will be hosted at the Nampa Public Library in the Multi Purpose room: A. Participants are encouraged to bring journals, laptops, paper, pencils.

All ages and skill levels are welcome!
